MSMEs are an important pillar in the regional economy, but their success and sustainability are greatly influenced by internal and external factors. This research was conducted to analyze the contribution of business partnerships and entrepreneurial competencies to the success of MSMEs in Makassar City. Partnerships are seen as collaborative strategies in dealing with limited resources, while entrepreneurial competencies reflect the ability of business actors to manage and develop businesses in a sustainable manner. This research is motivated by the importance of creating an adaptive and highly competitive MSME ecosystem through the synergy of these two factors.
This study uses an explanatory quantitative approach with a survey method. Data was collected from 98 active MSME actors in Makassar City using a Likert scale questionnaire. Data analysis was carried out using Structural Equation Modeling technique based on Partial Least Squares (PLS-SEM) using SmartPLS software. Validity, reliability, and hypothesis tests are carried out thoroughly through the bootstrapping process. The variables analyzed included business partnerships (X1), entrepreneurial competence (X2), and MSME success (Y).
The results of the study show that business partnerships and entrepreneurial competencies have a positive and significant effect on the success of MSMEs. Business partnerships have the strongest influence, followed by entrepreneurial competencies. The implications of this study emphasize the importance of empowering MSMEs through improving entrepreneurial skills and facilitating cross-sector collaboration. This research provides practical contributions for policy makers and MSME companion institutions in designing strategies to strengthen a sustainable small business ecosystem.
